Creating art every day (or at least often) is undeniably the quickest way to improve. Carol Marine’s book Daily Painting is a great book that encourages you to create small pieces every day as a way to practice, experiment, and grow as an artist. Her book encourages artists by sharing her story and stories of other artists about how creating art daily transformed their art. The stories are peppered throughout the book but most of the book is dedicated to teaching art techniques and explaining art concepts. It also is filled with wonderful paintings by many different artist.
Another important part of making art is sharing what you created and Carol Marine gives some great tips on making a website to showcase and sell your art. From how to photograph you work to generating traffic and sales.
Personally, I know how important creating art daily is. Much of my professional work is as a graphic designer but I’m also an avid sketcher. I notice the difference in my art when I dedicate more time to drawing than when I take breaks from art when life gets too busy. Daily Painting is a great reminder, with many great examples, of why creating art on a regular basis is so important.
