I’ve enjoyed almost all of Pixar’s movies because they pair amazing stories with equally amazing art. Their art design, from the style of the film, to the lighting and color choices, are all there to enhance the story. This is made abundantly clear in The Art of Pixar.

Getting to see the color scripts (color storyboards that helps develop the mood of different scenes) is like pulling back the curtain on the Pixar artists’ thinking process while developing the look and feel of a film. They styles of each film are also reflected in the color scripts. From the angular and dramatic art of The Incredibles to the sleek look of Wall-E and the organic feel of A Bug’s Life, this book shows how artists approached each film differently.

The Second half of the book is filled with wonderful concept art from many of Pixar’s films. Some are world building showing us scene designs. Other artwork captures important story moments or gives us glimpses into who the characters are.

Besides a short forward by John Lasseter and an introduction, the book has little text and is more a showpiece of Pixar art.
